TITLE :Cannot Boot Windows NT After Running OS/2
PRODUCT :Windows NT
PROD/VER:3.10
OPER/SYS:WINDOWS
KEYWORDS:BUGLIST3.10
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows NT operating system version 3.1
- Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1
----------------------------------------------------------------------
SYMPTOMS
========
You may not be able to boot Windows NT from an HPFS partition after
running OS/2.
CAUSE
=====
OS/2 clears the flags field for the root directory Fnode, causing
Windows NT to be more strict about allocation structures and mark the
root directory as corrupt. This prevents your machine from booting
from the HPFS partition.
WORKAROUND
==========
To work around this problem, boot from the NTFS or FAT partition.
After you boot Windows NT, CHKDSK can correct the root directory Fnode
flags.
